If you want to know how to get customers for your business, marketing is the answer. It’s a way your company promotes the buying or selling of your product/services. It includes advertising, selling, and delivering products to your customers.

Buzz marketing is a viral technique to maximize the use of word-of-mouth marketing which is the most powerful form of marketing to date. This emotion, energy, excitement, or anticipation about a product or service can be positive or negative.

We love using buzz marketing because it yields a greater ROI for our clients.

Why Buzz Marketing?

Saves you time and money and yields a greater, lasting return if implemented properly. There are six types of buzz marketing strategies that you can use that will help you wow your potential customers. Taboo, Secret, Outrageous, Hilarious, Remarkable, and Unusual.

We always advise our clients to use the main one that speaks more to their brand. You always want to use strategies that will amplify the message of your brand. For example, if you are selling food, you may not want to use a strategy that will leave a bad taste in your customer’s mouth. Pun totally intended.

So what are some examples of buzz marketing? Glad you asked. Let’s get into it.

Usually controversial subjects. Gets people talking. There are several brands that use controversy to sell their products/services. Think of celebrity gossip bloggers. Their brand is built on keeping up with the Joneses and all of their drama. If you use this strategy, proceed with caution because you don’t want to be sued for libel or worse.

Combining FOMO and excitement to get people talking. Ever heard of an artist named Beyonce? Well her team is one of the best to use this strategy. The way they can get others excited about their upcoming releases and products is second to none. We wanna be like them when we grow up!

Get people talking by shocking them. Think Donald Trump and Kanye West. No matter what you think about them they can get others talking about them due to their outrageous claims. Most people don’t even understand that this is an actual tactic however here is another place where we will advise you to proceed with caution. Unless you have a well-thought-out strategic plan, you could lose a lot of money, customers, and friends when you implement this strategy.

If you understand the art of humor this is a great way to get people talking. This is honestly one of our favorite forms of buzz marketing because if you can make people laugh you can make them listen. Think Kevin Hart. He can talk to anyone, anywhere about anything and they will not only listen but they will take action. So it may be a great idea to practice the art of humor and get your customers hanging onto your every word. Check out how we infuse humor into our content.

If you can exceed expectations this is a way to get people talking. Think Chick Fil A. They are by far the BEST fast food restaurant in the industry. Their customer service and team skills are impeccable. Sometimes we go to Chick Fil A when having a bad day just to hear them say, “it’s my pleasure.” Can you imagine how your customers would react if you smiled and told made them feel like it was an honor to serve them? You should definitely try this strategy.

Different and unique. Think Apple. We use Apple products (like ALL of them) in our agency and we have to say they have a way of getting us excited to buy the SAME product over and over again. If that ain’t unusual, I don’t know what is.
